Can I add copy-protection to a Mediator presentation CD-ROM?

CDs created with Mediator can be copy protected, but this requires a third-party software to process the files before burning to CD. Copy protection software usually works by obscuring the files and/or CD itself, so the software that is burned can only run from CD.

Protecting a CD will not influence an installer created with Mediator. Installers are themselves regarded as applications that run from CD, but the files that are placed will not be protected from editing. This is especially relevant for Word DOC files, Adobe PDFs, JPEGs, movie files and other external media. Any proprietary material installed can only be protected to the extend the file formats themselves can protect their content – or by a legally binding copyright notice or end user license agreement.

For the WMV format – Windows Media Video – the terms of usage forbids including the media file itself into the EXE presentation. When including a WMV file this file will always be placed as a stand-alone file which is easy to copy. WMV videos are able to employ Digital Rights Management (DRM), but Mediator cannot do this for you – you have to use a third-party application for that purpose. Playing DRM-protected WMV files is possible, but may require that the client computer is running the latest version of Microsoft’s Media Player.
